With its remarkably-photogenic range of natural landscapes and elegantly historic venues, Long Island is an irresistible choice for couples when it comes to wedding shoots.
The region shines year-round, with its landscapes blooming in the spring; its beaches and skies glimmering in the summer; and the nostalgic turning colors of its foliage in the fall. And all the while, peppered throughout Long Island, are historically antique towns and areas, with details and architecture that add an old-world charm to any shoot.
At Angel Project, the team has put together a list of five of our most favorite spots in Long Island to set the tone for couples! Read more below.
1. Robert Moses State Park
Located on the western end of Fire Island, Robert Moses State Park spans an astounding 875 acres of ocean beach, boardwalk, picnic areas, and playgrounds. The wealth of beautifully natural locations makes for a memorable shoot with your loved one.
With its historical buildings and quiet beaches, the overall atmosphere hearkens back to a feeling of classic New York. Lastly, the Lighthouse makes for a perfectly charming backdrop, and at its very top, provides sweepingly beautiful views of the shore and city.
2. Raphael Winery
Situated in Peconic, NY, this family-owned winery transports visitors to a stunningly upscale Tuscany setting. The 60-acre vineyard is ideal for a romantic shoot. Indoors, the magnificent Great Hall or Renaissance Room of the winery offer an equally rustic, beautiful ambience.
Details such as lanterns, intricate chandeliers, and open balconies gazing out onto stretches of vineyards, combine together to create a sense of first-class magic. Bonus: start or end the shoot with an excellent glass of wine, made with hand-harvested grapes.
3. Sea Cliff Beach, Sea Cliff
It is unquestionable that Long Island excels in its beaches. Sea Cliff Beach, located along the shoreline of the region’s famous Gold Coast, is no exception. Nestled near sandstone cliffs and a storybook village with a smattering of Victorian-style cottages, this protected area remains pure and unspoiled.
With a history reaching back to the mid-1800s, one can easily manage decades of lovers strolling along the waters. At all times of the day, Sea Cliff sets the mood for romance, its skies and sands making it the quintessential spot for a beach wedding shoot.
4. Muttontown Preserve
Sitting along Long Island’s famous Gold Coast, Muttontown Preserve
covers 550 acres of fields, woodlands, ponds and old estate grounds. The possibilities for an unforgettably stunning wedding shoot are endless here.
There are the forests, parks and nature trails, streaked with beautiful, local wildflowers and trees, with almost a fairytale quality in their intense lushness. For old-world sophistication, Chelsea Mansion, named to the National Register of Historical Places in 1979, is an expert blend of French, English and Chinese influences.
Lastly, the ruins of the mansion once owned by King Zog of Albania can be found in the woodlands north of Mutton Road. The Knollwood Estate, with its strewn trees and crumbling structures, provides the last, uniquely striking piece.
5. Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park
Situated in Oyster Bay, the arboretum is a former Gold Coast estate, and is a magical mix of nature and historic structures — the perfect place for couples to pick their ambience.
Its natural areas range from exotic hibiscus, succulents, and cacti in the Camelia and Main greenhouses; to the finely-manicured look of rolling lawns; to the wildflower-strewn atmosphere of woodland paths. In early May, the magnolias and cherry blossoms bloom in magnificent color.
For couples desiring a sense of artistry and history in their wedding shoot, the arboretum’s Coe Hall is ideal. The venue features a mostly-Elizabeth-style interior, its craftsmanship clear in its wood-and-stone carvings, ironwork, and beautiful stained glass windows.
